Using a rental car to get to Whistler is not a necessity, but for those who
want to stop and see the sights it's an excellent way to travel. On the way
to Whistler Resort you can view the magnificent Shannon Falls and the town of
Squamish which is home to the world famous rock climbing mountain called 'The
Chief'. All of these sights are visible from Highway 99. Depending on the time
of year, it is also worth stopping for bald eagle viewing in Brackendale which
is just north of Squamish. If you decide to take a day off from skiing or golfing
while in Whistler, it is also worthwhile to visit Pemberton, which is about
25 minutes drive north of Whistler Village. Pemberton is the home of the first
nations community of Mt. Currie and the Pemberton valley which is a fertile
growing area for farming. The views and scenery differ vastly from Whistler
and well worth a visit.
